Waiheke Island Olive Oil Ranks On top Of The World Again!
Rangihoua Estate olive grove on Waiheke Island is celebrating yet another year of ‘the good oil’.
Rangihoua 2019 Olive Oil ranks 98/100 in the Flos Olei, which is the revered annual “Guide to the world of extra virgin olive oil“.
In 2013 Rangihoua was ranked in the Top 20 in the Flos Olei Guide, and this year’s score places it in the Top 3 rankings.
The Flos Olei Olive Oil ranking is not only awarded for the high organopleptic qualities of the oils proposed to the expert panel of expert tasters, but are also based on “the quality each farm has shown over the years and the added value this represents for its area of production” -Flos Olei page 13.
Estate manager Anne Stanimiroff says she is thrilled with the accolade.
“We submitted our 2019 Koroneiki and Frantoio Blend to the Flos Olei for scoring, in the guide book they also acknowledged our excellent standard, consistent quality over the years, sustainable practices and special care and passion shown.
Anne says the success of Rangihoua is a team effort.
We’re so grateful to our Operations Manager Darryl Beech, who operates our mill. His passion for the product shines through in the quality of our oil.
And all our tasting room staff members are Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO) ambassadors.
Our philosophy is to educate and promote the properties of authentic EVOO.”
Rangihoua also processes extra virgin olive oil for other brands that grow olives on Waiheke Island, including Number 29, Stonyridge Vineyard, Woodside Bay Olives, Kennedy Point, Totara Road as well as many private property owners.
It is very satisfying to be able to offer this service to the locals – garden to table extra virgin olive oil.
Rangihoua Estate also has a Tasting Room where visitors are welcome to come and try the oils.
The Tasting Room is open 362 days per year, from 11am – 3pm Monday – Saturday and 11am-2pm on Sundays and public holidays.
